Luna Burgers – local veggie burgers

June 16th, 2009 · No Comments

While still a meat eater at heart, I’ve come to appreciate and even enjoy a good veggie burger.  I never would have tried one without the influence of the right person, but I now eat them on a semi-regular basis.  Typically the only option without going out is one of the frozen varieties from Amy’s, Gardenburger, Boca, etc.  Luna Burger changes that.

Luna Burgers are veggie burgers produced right here in Columbus, OH.  They are available at the Clintonville Farmer’s Market in different flavor varieties ranging from farmhouse chili to garden thyme.  They are $6 for 10 which is a little more expensive than the grocery store variety, but these are substantial burgers made primarily of locally grown ingredients.  Eating local is always a good thing.

The burgers themselves are bought frozen and can be prepared like any other frozen veggie burger.  I cooked mine in the oven, added a little cheese and enjoyed.  The burgers are thicker than the usual veggie burger and rather than just being an unappetizing brown puree, real vegetables are actually visual if you slow down to take a look between bites.  The consistency remained good throughout and the burgers did a nice job of filling me up.

I’ve tried both the original and the farmhouse chili.  I recommend the farmhouse chili because it has a little more spice to it and the original may seem a little bland if you are used to red meat.  Really though you can’t go wrong.  If you are in Columbus and are in the habit of picking up one of the national brands at the grocery store, check out the farmer’s market one day and give Luna Burger a shot.
